Product Overview

Bakelite (phenolic laminated paper/cotton-fabric board) is a thermosetting composite made by laminating phenolic-resin-impregnated insulating paper or cotton cloth under high temperature and pressure. With excellent electrical insulation, good machinability and outstanding value for money, it is one of the most widely used engineering materials in industrial jigs and fixtures. In CNC machine fixture baseplates, welding fixtures, ICT in-circuit test pin beds and automation assembly locating parts, bakelite sheet provides both electrical isolation and stable structural support. Dongguan Chaorong Electronics Co., Ltd. supplies paper-based (PFCP) and fabric-based (PFCC) grades from 1 mm to 100 mm thick, with CNC precision machining, slotting, drilling and counterboring services to meet automation lines' dual demands for fixture accuracy and delivery time.

Core Technical Features

1. Excellent Electrical Insulation

Bakelite sheet achieves perpendicular-to-laminate breakdown voltage ≥10 kV/mm (tested to IEC 60893) with volume resistivity ≥10¹⁰ Ω·cm, providing stable dielectric strength at room temperature. This makes it ideal for insulating components of live-work fixtures and for the isolation layer between signal pins and metal baseplates in test fixtures, effectively preventing short circuits and signal crosstalk.

2. Outstanding Machinability

Compared with metals and advanced composites, bakelite has moderate hardness (Rockwell M scale ~100–120), does not gum up cutters and shows little tendency to burr. It can be milled, drilled and tapped at high speed with standard carbide tooling — machining efficiency is higher than FR4 or carbon fiber with low tool wear, making it the most cost-effective choice for volume fixture production.

3. Good Heat Resistance and Dimensional Stability

Bakelite operates continuously up to 130 °C (short-term to 150 °C) and performs reliably in solder reflow and wave-soldering fixture applications. Water absorption ≤1.0% means minimal dimensional change in normal workshop environments, safeguarding repeatable fixture positioning accuracy.

4. Creep and Wear Resistance

As a thermoset, bakelite exhibits virtually no creep under sustained clamping loads — long-term clamping without deformation. Its surface, after finishing, offers moderate friction: protecting workpiece appearance while ensuring reliable locating.

Typical Applications

Welding / soldering palletsFabric PFCC3–10 mmHeat resistant, no deformation
ICT test pin bedPaper PFCP6–16 mmHigh insulation, precise holes
Assembly locating blocksPaper PFCP5–20 mmWear resistant, dimensionally stable

CNC Machine Fixtures

In volume CNC machining, bakelite serves as vacuum-chuck baseplates or form-locating fixtures. Its insulation and machining convenience allow multi-station slots to be laid out rapidly on a single baseplate with locating accuracy ≤±0.05 mm, significantly improving clamping efficiency.

Welding and Solder Pallets

The fabric grade offers superior heat resistance and is the standard choice for wave-soldering and reflow pallets: at 260 °C peak temperatures it does not char short-term and releases no harmful gases, protecting both solder quality and operator safety.
